My mother (Sherry) was scheduled to be our first Austin visitor. Her flight was scheduled to arrive at 11:30. Christy and I headed over to visit James and
Claire in the morning. At 11:15, we headed out for the airport.
My mother was bringing down a couple of our suitcases that Christy had pre-packed before we left. So the plan was for Christy to circle the airport while I
ran in to get my mother and the luggage. I met my mother at baggage claim 3 and we chatted there, waiting for the luggage to show up on the carousel. After
a few minutes, I turned around and was startled to see my father, who had made a last minute change of plans and came down to surprise us for Father's Day. I
was very happy to see both of them.
Once we got all of the bags, we went to the curb and Christy eventually completed her current lap. As soon as she saw us, she started smiling and waving. We
packed into the car. Before my dad was in the mix, the plans were to go eat salad somewhere. But now that I had another big eater, there was no choice but
to head back to Pappasito's for more heart-stopping enchiladas.
While we celebrated and ate (coincidentally, our server's name was James), we received the call from Logan that the papers had been signed and James and Claire
were ours.
After lunch, we had to go back to the hotel, where we met Logan (and her mother) for the signing of our end of the paperwork. Once signed, we headed over to the
hospital.
In the NICU, you are only allowed two visitors at a time, regardless of the number of babies you have in there. So Christy and my mother went in and visited with
the babies first. They were in there for a long time. My dad and I were content to sit in the waiting room watching the always compelling U.S. Open.
Eventually, the Christy and Sherry came out and my dad and I went in. We took a few pictures, made a few manly comments, and then headed back out. Shift change
was about to evict us for an hour and a half, so we decided to head into the city.
We had our eye on the Roaring Forks restaurant, which Christy and I had been to on Sunday night, but we were not hungry yet. So we parked nearby and started
roaming the streets. We decided to go over to the eccentric bar at the Driskill hotel and have a few drinks. We sat there, relaxing and talking for about an
hour before moving on to dinner.
Dinner at the Roaring Forks was great. They have slow-cooked wood fire carnitas that are really something.
After dinner, my dad and I dropped the women off at the hotel and then headed back to the hotel room. Christy and Sherry had a great time. They got to hold
each of the babies while sitting in side-by-side gliders. Sherry had Claire and Christy had James.
All in all, a very good day.
