Today got off to another interesting start. We all woke up at 4:15 AM so we could take my mother to the airport. When we
got down to the car I noticed that the lights were not flashing when I tried to unlock the door remotely. As I approached, it became
clear that the battery was dead. Christy had left the lights on last night when she and my mother came back from the
hospital. So up she ran to the front desk and came back with a nice man, who gave us a jump start in time to make our
airport delivery.
I was thinking that afterwards it might be nice to come back to the hotel and go back to sleep. But Christy was wired because
Nicholas was flying in at 3:00. So instead of sleep, we cleaned up the hotel room, shopped for Nicholas supplies, and then went to the
hospital. The twins are doing very well. Claire had a slight regression and is breathing through the canula (actual medical term) again.
At 12:30, we left the hospital and headed back to Upper Crust Bakery for soup and salad. I did my best to remain unhealthy, and
got a giant bowl of 'cheese soup'. Not surprisingly, it tasted a lot like liquid cheese. I liked it.
After lunch, we had a small amount of time to kill before heading back to the airport. I decided to fill up the car with gas. As
fate would have it, I made the mistake of driving past the Gap. We of course stopped and soon had new cargo.
At the airport, Nicholas and Karen (Christy's mom; aka Mamaw) came strolling toward the baggage claim area. Nicholas was thrilled to
see us, and we were dying without him. He seems huge after holding tiny infants. Mamaw joke edited out here
We headed directly to the hospital so Mamaw could get her hands on the new grandkids. While Christy and her mom were with the babies,
Nicholas and I roamed the halls. We talked to a few cute nurses, one of which invited us to come to the regular baby nursery so we
could look at the babies through the window. As we were looking at one baby, Nicholas told me 'That baby needs a sticker'. Nicholas
loves stickers, and the baby did look bored. Five minutes later, the nurse came around the corner with stickers (although I know
she could not have heard his comment). She asked Nicholas which sticker he wanted, and he pointed at and correctly stated 'The Football'.
I said 'That's my boy' and we put the football sticker on his hand.
We decided to ride the elevators a bit, and a woman with a 3-month old girl got on. Nicholas asked her 'Is that my baby sister?'. I told
him it wasn't, and he then asked 'Is that a baby?'. It's tough for him because he is not allowed in the NICU and cannot see his
new siblings at all.
After the hospital, we headed once again to Pappasito's for more enchiladas. Nicholas, after 10 days of grandparent law, came out
testing the waters. He threw his crayons at the people next to us, landing him in timeout. He crumpled up chips and threw them
on the floor, landing him in timeout. And then he threw his thankfully-lidded-milk at the same people, which landed him in deep
timeout and a daddy lecture. After that, he was back to his old self and we had a nice meal.
I forgot to order a lid for Mamaw's drink, and she responded by spilling it all over Christy.
After dinner, we went to the hotel. I was planning on staying there while Nicholas went to bed so that Christy and Mamaw could go visit the
babies. But Mamaw was worn out after a day of travel, so she stayed in the hotel and I got to go visit. Our night time visits are very relaxing.
We just sat there holding the babies and talking to the nurses. We learned that later on overnight, they are moving James and Claire into a private
room with a window.
As I am writing, Mamaw is snoring like a congested bear on the couch.
