Our first night with James went pretty well. As expected, he needed to be fed every 2-3 hours. And as expected, we were both a little tired this morning. It was in the middle of the night that we realized we were a few supplies short. We had purchased a pink papesan, but the angle on it is not great and James did not sleep well in it. So we called the front desk this morning and asked for a crib. They brought up a Pack N Play, which is fine. We then bought a baby positioner and broke out one of the Miracle blankets that our friends Jane and Greg sent. I foresee more sleep for everyone tonight.
After a one night refresher course with a newborn, the thought of having two of these things is really scary. As my friend Rich said simply in an e-mail: '
Congratulations. Boy, are you screwed.' Well said.
We got a surprise call from the doctor today, who shocked us by telling us that Claire might be ready to go on Thursday. They are doing a sleep study on her tonight. If all goes well, she will be released Thursday. This is GREAT news. If this happens, my mother will come down and join us on Friday and hopefully we can all come home together next week. We are dying down here without Nicholas, who is with my parents. And we just need to get home and return to normal.
We took James for his first meal today. We wanted Z Tejas again, but did not want to be called out as repeat offenders by the restaurant help. So we went to the other Z Tejas, which is about 20 minutes north of here. James was great. Much like Nicholas, he liked the background noise of the restaurant and just slept peacefully in his container the whole time.
I am really tired and not feeling very bloggy tonight (for the 35th night in a row). Thanks to those who sent questions...I got several and since I have nothing else to say, I will answer a few.
Michael Fudge asks:
Do you find yourself rooting for the Green Bay Packers solely because of your relationship with cheese?
No I don't. While I like cheese, I find it hard to like people who wear it on their head. And I am sick of their cry-baby retiring/un-retiring quarterback.
Deb Begningi asks:
What is the best kind of cheese for USDA Grade A Angus beef?
This is an easy one. American cheese. Unless you figure out what is in the Fuddrucker's pump cheese...then it would be that cheese.
Laura Manchester asks:
Please discuss the political and social statements associated with the fact that Teddy never wins the presidential race. What are the producers of the race trying to say? Are they against a man who inspired the teddy bear? Or is it a plot against a man with a mustache and glasses? Do they not like the idea: "Speak softly and carry a big stick; you will go far"? Are they age-ist, and he is too young?
I have included a few links for your research:

Feel free to do your own research on this one. But I feel as though social and political comments are more effective when they are just cast out without thought, research, or fact to back them up. Teddy is clearly being discriminated against because he allowed Robin Williams to portray him in the awful movie 'Night at the Museum'. The association with Williams, who stopped being funny when he left Ork in the early 1980's, has lowered the ex-president's self esteem to the point where Teddy no longer wants to win the race. He does not feel as though he deserves to win. That and his mustache gets heavy with Nacho Cheese as he snacks during pre-race warmups.
