The birth parents had requested that we come down to Austin to meet in person....on Monday! The twins due date was July 26, but twins often arrived early. So they wanted to meet us right away.

Christy and I determined that this might be our last chance to frolic childless around a new city, so we decided to fly down to Austin on Sunday morning and stay through Tuesday afternoon. Our friends Jane and Greg had recommended the eccentric Driskill hotel as a place to stay. Knowing that Jane and Greg have extremely good taste, we just booked it.

Thank God for airline miles. For 25,000 miles each, we were able to book two non-stop round trip tickets to Austin. With gas prices being what they are, had we not had miles, the same flights would have cost us $2800 cash plus one of the unborn twins.

Knowing what Jane and Greg's hotel recommendation had cost me, I headed off to work again. Christy and Nicholas met with my mother (Sherry) and did some more twin shopping....this time with no worries about the birth parents selecting one of the other evil Gladney families.

After shopping (most of which Sherry paid for...ahhh), they met up with my brother (Chris) and my dad (Bill) for an extravagant meal. McDonald's was the only place that Nicholas and his Uncle Chris could agree on. Christy and Sherry did not care. They were high from thoughts of children and spending.

That night, when I returned home, Christy was frantically running around with arm-fulls of baby and toddler clothes. She was transferring all of Nicholas' clothes from his old nursery into his new big-boy room. I tried to get her attention, but she was in a trance and did not respond. So Nicholas and I went into the basement and threw things at each other for a while.

After bathing Nicholas and reading him some books, I put him to bed and headed down stairs to watch baseball. Christy kept working....
