Today was an important day. We were meeting the birth parents. The birth mother (B) was on bed rest, so we were told to arrive at her home at 12:30. Having been through this sort of thing before, we were not as nervous as we were expecting.

We woke up around 8:00 and started getting ready. Christy tried to find an outfit that made her look mom-like. I tried to find an outfit that didn't make me look fat. We wanted to bring B some things to help her get through the rest of bed rest as comfortably as possible. We found a small strip of interesting shops on South Congress street and started searching for relaxation-basket-type goodies. We started out at a place called Farm-to-Market, which had all sorts of wierd cookies, jams, teas, and flowers. Christy was worried that the flowers might die in the hot Texas sun prior to our meeting, so we explained our situation to the man at the counter and he gave us a vase with water to borrow for a while.

We cruised down the row of shops, picking up trinkets and fun things. We then hopped in the car and went to Whole Foods, looking for more stuff. The Whole Foods here in downtown Austin was full of good-looking people. Maybe it is because this is a college town (University of Texas), but everyone here is in shape. Definitely not a place where I belong.

At 11:40, we finished up our shopping and Christy arranged the gift baskets and flowers in the back of the car on the way over. At 12:01, we arrived at B's home. Walking up to the door brought on the nerves. We rang the bell, and the door was answered by the birth parents.

The meeting went very well. The details are being saved for James and Claire...but we can share this. Both parents are extremely loving, intelligent, wonderful people who come from very loving families. We were impressed beyond words. It should also be noted that they looked like the Hollywood versions of Greg and Christy. Christy's Hollywood version, of course, looks a lot like he Christy we all know and love...with higher cheek bones. Greg's Hollywood counterpart would not be familiar to most of you....but he looks like I think I look like when I am not in front of a mirror.

At the end of the 2 hour meeting, the birth mother invited us to attend her ultra-sound appointment with her on Wednesday morning. This was an opportunity we did not want to miss, so we decided to rough it one extra night at the Driskill and change our flights to Wednesday afternoon.

When we both got back in the car following the meeting, I looked at Chrisy and said..."Was it me...or are we going to have two more amazing children?". Christy was thinking the exact same thing. We were humbled by our good fortune.

Mentally exhausted, we headed to Bess's Bistro. I had a couple of refreshing Live Oak beers and some perfect meatloaf.
